As gas prices continue to soar across the United States, Vice President Kamala Harris and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg were criticized for their event on promoting electric buses.
Harris and Buttigieg were at the event to celebrate one-year anniversary of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act.
During their speeches, neither Harris nor Buttigieg mentioned gas prices or the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“Imagine a future: the freight trucks that deliver bread and milk to our grocery store shelves and the buses that take children to school and parents to work,” Harris said.
“Imagine all the heavy-duty vehicles that keep our supply lines strong and allow our economy to grow. Imagine that they produce zero emissions. Well, you all imagined it,” she continued.
Harris announced that $1.5 billion will be released to local transit authorities for electric buses. $2.2 billion from the American Rescue Plan Act will also be released.
Both Buttigieg and Harris said electric buses could improve public health.
Oklahoma congressman Markwayne Mullin tweeted Monday, “Vice President Kamala Harris and DOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg spent the afternoon promoting electric vehicles and Green New Deal policies. Are you kidding me? The Biden Administration could not be more tone deaf”.
