BLM Calls American Flag Is a “Symbol Of Hate”

The American flag has long been seen as a symbol of freedom, liberty, and opportunity. The flag is flown by people around the world who wish to be freed from oppression. Now,  some ungrateful American citizens with a lack of perspective have labeled this flag as a “symbol of hatred.”

The Daily Caller reported, Lex Scott, the leader and founder of Utah’s Black Lives Matter chapter, confirmed that the group stood behind a controversial Facebook post made on July 4.

The group declared the American flag was “a symbol of hatred,” that “the person flying it is a racist,” and “we question your intelligence. We know to avoid you,” in the July 4 post.

Why would someone’s intelligence be questioned simply because they fly the flag of the country in which they live? Because they fly the flag of a nation that is responsible for their freedom and abundant opportunity?

After receiving much backlash Scott made another post,

“If you see that every person that hates you is carrying an American flag how would you feel about that flag? If every message of hate that you receive comes from a person flying that flag, how would you feel when you see that flag.”

Perhaps these things do have a causal relationship. But not the one that Scott perceives.

If Lex Scott is to degrade a symbol that is integral to the values of a certain group, of course that group will dislike Scott and criticize her for the rhetoric that she participates in.

It’s not that the flag fundamentally stands against her, it’s that she stands against the flag.  Therefore those who value it stand against her.
