The House Oversight Committee has issued subpoenas to several banks, requesting financial records of associates connected to the Biden family. Fox News verified that the committee has subpoenaed Bank of America, Cathay Bank, JPMorgan Chase, and HSBC USA N.A., along with Mervyn Yan, a former business associate of Hunter Biden, in their quest for financial information

Representative Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland and the leading Democrat on the Oversight Committee, expressed dissatisfaction with Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky. Raskin accused Comer of attempting to conceal information about the investigation from the Democratic members of the committee.

In a statement to Fox News, Comer defended his actions, stating, “Once more, Ranking Member Raskin has publicized the Committee’s subpoenas in a misguided effort to hinder cooperation from potential witnesses. Considering his previous actions with the initial bank subpoena, the American people and media should be questioning what information Raskin is attempting to conceal this time. It’s important not to be misled by Raskin’s tactics. We possess the bank records, and the facts do not favor the Biden family.”

On Thursday, the Democratic staff of the Oversight Committee distributed a memo to its members, alleging that the Republicans were carrying out their investigation under a “cloak of confidentiality.”

Comer justifies his decision to protect witnesses from Democrats in the Hunter Biden investigation, citing a lack of trust in Raskin. “Although there has been a considerable investment of time and resources, Republican endeavors across various congressional committees have not produced any evidence implicating President Biden in any wrongdoing. Regardless, Chairman Comer has issued six subpoenas for financial records as a part of this renewed inquiry, with some of them being based on information that Committee Republicans are aware is inaccurate,” the memo asserts.

The Democratic memo claims that Republicans have not been transparent about their subpoenas or informed Democrats about them. This lack of communication has allegedly led to some individuals targeted by the subpoenas being unaware that the committee is requesting their records.

On February 27, 2023, Chairman Comer discreetly issued the Committee’s initial document subpoena as part of the ongoing Republican-led investigation into the Biden family, targeting Bank of America. Among other information, the subpoena sought “all financial records” spanning a remarkable 14-year period, from January 20, 2009, to the present, for John R. Walker, a private U.S. citizen. However, due to Chairman Comer’s utilization of a concealed subpoena, Mr. Walker remained unaware of the Committee’s subpoena for his financial records from Bank of America. He was also uninformed about the bank’s submission of his records to the Committee and the Committee’s public disclosure of information from these records, according to the memo.
