As we have seen in the past, GOP leadership will undoubtedly be working hard to rewrite the law, just as they did for former governors Rick Scott and Charlie Crist, to allow them to run for federal office while still maintaining their position as governor. This is a smart move on their part, as it will ensure that Governor DeSantis has the flexibility to pursue his political ambitions without having to relinquish his position as governor.

At present, F.S. Chapter 99 states that any officer who qualifies for federal public office must resign from the office they currently hold if the terms run concurrently with each other. This resignation is also irrevocable. However, with the next presidential term set to begin in January 2025, in the middle of Governor DeSantis’s second term, lawmakers are expected to make the necessary adjustments to allow him to continue serving as governor for as long as he needs to.
This move by the GOP leadership is a clear indication of their unwavering commitment to their party and its leaders. They understand the importance of having a strong Republican candidate in the running for federal office, and they are doing everything in their power to ensure that Governor DeSantis has the best possible chance of succeeding.
Of course, as with any political move, there are those who will oppose this change. However, the Republican leadership is prepared for any and all challenges that may arise. They have carefully crafted this plan to ensure that it is both legal and ethical, and they are confident that it will be met with overwhelming support.
The first committee hearing on this election law change is scheduled for April 4. We are confident that this will be the first step towards a bright future for the Republican party and for Governor DeSantis himself. With the unwavering support of his fellow Republicans, there is no limit to what he can achieve.
