The Taliban have already begun their exodus of women’s rights in Afghanistan.
The Daily Caller reported, Women in Afghanistan will no longer be allowed to play sports, a Taliban official confirmed Wednesday.
“In cricket and other sports, women will not get an Islamic dress code. It is obvious that they will get exposed and will not follow the dress code, and Islam does not allow that,” deputy cultural commission head Ahmadullah Wasiq told Australia’s SBS News. Taliban officials have previously said that women would have the rights accorded to them under Islamic sharia law.
The Taliban claim that women playing sports like cricket is “unnecessary” and that women should not participate in activities where they are “exposed.”
Wasiq said that women will be allowed to leave their homes for “necessary activities” like shopping.
Women, and everyone else for that matter should be allowed to leave their homes for anything they desire.
This is the start of an oppressive era in Afghanistan. Just weeks ago women were able to serve in public offices in the now overrun country.
No women will be forced to remain inside unless the state deems it “necessary” for them to leave.
Formerly Afghanistan had an internationally recognized women’s cricket team. This team will undoubtedly be disbanded under a Taliban rule.
