“Two days ago, I was recently RPC’d for having a MAGA hat, not even on my head, on my backpack,” said a Shadow Ridge student in a video shared with 13 Action News.

Two students tell 13 Action News that was the incident that set off a chain reaction at several valley high schools. They say school administrators at Shadow Ridge High told that student his Trump-related hat had to go. He says he was wearing it on his backpack.

The schools dress code prohibits “slogans or advertising” but in this case the Trump hat is less of advertising, and more a show of support for policy and candidacy.

The wearing of the hat is an expression of free speech entitled to all Americans. Public schools are government run institutions therefore censorship of speech would be a violation of the first amendment so long as the student is of an adult age.

The student claims that he complied with the schools order, but the administration confiscated his hat anyway. He says this “crossed the line.”

“In the rules, we’re not allowed to wear hats. They tell us to take it off, we just take it off, whatever. The only way they can take it is if we put it back on again and disrespect them,” said the anonymous student.

He claims that he wanted to remain anonymous out of fear of retaliation.

Under no circumstance should students be afraid of “retaliation” from their school as a result of constitutionally protected speech and press. Students should also feel protected at school, and should not have to fear danger from other students over their beliefs

“And the principal didn’t take it, he ripped it off his backpack, and then proceeded to fold it up and cracked the brim, broke the brim of the hat, and rolled it into a ball,” The student explained

This student bravely led a flag waiving truck rally along the streets near the school.

To protest CRT Students Also allegedly wore American flag attire in class. the students were accused by their peers of being ‘white supremacists’.
