Schumer Says Gop Doesn’t Care But Blocks School Safety Bill

After the school shooting in Uvalde Texas, Chuck Schumer gave a speech. In the speech on the Senate floor, he accused Republicans of caring too much for the NRA, and too little about grieving families.

Not long after, a GOP-backed School Safety bill was introduced and was immediately blocked by Schumer. This bill seemed to be quite reasonable and bipartisan.

Rather than unconstitutionally strip American Citizens of their second amendment right, the bill sought to make schools safe and defended against potential mass shooters.

Fox News reported, The bill, named after Parkland, Florida, shooting victims Luke Hoyer and Alex Schachter, would require the Department of Homeland Security to establish a “Federal Clearinghouse on School Safety Best Practices” for use by state and local educational and law-enforcement agencies, institutions of higher education, health professionals, and the public. And it would require DHS to “collect clearinghouse data analytics, user feedback on the implementation of best practices and recommendations identified by the clearinghouse, and any evaluations conducted on these best practices and recommendations.”

Instead, Schumer insisted that the school in Uvalde had security and that security forces if four officers failed. Clearly, they failed. This is why better, more experienced security is needed. Not everyone is willing to run into gunfire to save others. Millions of veterans in America go jobless despite having federal hiring priority. Why would these highly experienced individuals be considered?

“The shooter got past them. We need real solutions—We will vote on gun legislation starting with the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act.” Schumer said as if gun control was the real solution.

Gun control will never solve the problem, and gun ownership does not correlate to higher gun homicide. The rate of gun ownership has been increasing by 10 million guns per year since 1993, yet according to Pew Research, the date of gun homicide since 93’ has nearly folded in half with a 49% reduction.

Despite claiming that the School Safety bill would not work, Schumer tried to bargain. He said that the bill would be considered if Republicans agreed to debate the domestic terrorism bill.
