Greg Abbott to Suspend The Pay Of Texas Lawmakers

After Democrat representatives in Texas staged a walkout during a vote on election reform, Governor Greg Abbott says that he will suspend pay.

The Daily Caller wrote “Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott said Monday that he would veto funding for his state’s legislature after Democrats delayed the passage of an expansive elections bill.”

Due to the fact that Democrats were not present for the session, there were not the minimum amount of lawmakers necessary to vote on the law. Therefore the legislative process in Texas was halted.

Greg Abbott understands that being an elected official comes with responsibilities. One of these responsibilities is showing up to work and not deserting. Abbott said in a tweet:  “I will veto Article 10 of the budget passed by the legislature. Article 10 funds the legislative branch. No pay for those who abandon their responsibilities. Stay tuned.”

As a result, Democrats have put Abbott under fire. “I don’t give a shit about my $600 a month. But there are thousands of workers here with families to support. This is pretty tone-deaf even for Texas.” Democratic state Rep. Gene Wu said.

Abbott is expected to call an emergency session to address the issues that were halted during the walkout. “Election Integrity & Bail Reform were emergency items for this legislative session. They STILL must pass. They will be added to the special session agenda. Legislators will be expected to have worked out the details when they arrive at the Capitol for the special session,” The Governor tweeted.

One thing is for certain, lawmakers cannot be allowed to freely stall government processes through childish temper tantrums any time that they risk being out voted.
