It’s hard to imagine a world where you could be fined based on the decisions of another individual person. This world has been made a reality. One of the largest health systems iin many states will now be fining employees who’s spouses have not been vaccinated against COVID-19.
Fox reported, Ochsner Health will start charging employees $200 per month, or $100 per pay period, if their spouse or partner is unvaccinated. The “spousal COVID vaccine fee” will begin in 2022, and Thomas said it is not a mandate, saying non-employed spouses and domestic partners can select a health plan outside the Ochsner’s offerings.
The employer has begun meddling in the personal affairs of their employees, and punishing them based on the decisions of individual persons of whom they have no control.
A person may have great influence over their spouse, but at the end of the day cannot force their counterpart to do anything he or she does not wish to do.
Doing so would be illegal.
“The reality is the cost of treating COVID-19, particularly for patients requiring intensive inpatient care, is expensive, and we spent more than $9 million on COVID care for those who are covered on our health plans over the last year,” CEO of Ochsner Health said.
The organization is attempting to get a foot hold over the autonomy of people that are not employed by the Health System.
The pandemic from the very beginning has been an opening for corrupt persons to gain power.
The pandemic will never subside until politicians and CEO’s are no longer able to obtain power from the fear that it produces.
