Shortly following an incident in Texas where Democrats fled the state to halt voting legislation, an unidentified aide of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tested positive for COVID-19.

In a statement from Drew Hammill, Pelosi’s Deputy Chief of Staff, he stated “Yesterday, a fully vaccinated senior spokesperson in the speaker’s press office tested positive for COVID after contact with members of the Texas state legislature last week”.

At least five of the Texas Democrats tested positive for COVID despite being fully vaccinated. Pelosi’s aide was also vaccinated, but the individual has not been in contact with the speaker since being exposed.

While following guidance from the Capitol physician, any individual in the press office who was not exposed or tested negative is allowed to work in-person and all others are working remotely.

Vice President Kamala Harris was also present at a meeting with the Democratic lawmakers, however, she tested negative for COVID after visiting Walter Reed Medical Center this past Sunday.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated that Harris’s visit was a pre-scheduled, routine appointment.
