Texas School District Changes Dress Code To Avoid Ban On Mask Mandates

In order to get around Governor Abbott’s ban on mask mandates, a Texas school board changed the dress code to include face masks.

This comes after Abbott signed an executive order last month to ban mask mandates in the state.

The school district explained that the Board of Trustees was concerned about the safety of students and employees.

The Board believes the dress code can be used to mitigate communicable health issues, and therefore has amended the PISD dress code to protect our students and employees.

The district added, “Nothing in the Governor’s Executive Order 38 states he has suspended Chapter 11 of the Texas Education Code, and therefore the Board has elected to amend its dress code consistent with its statutory authority”.

Abbott’s executive order read, “No governmental entity, including a county, city, school district, and public health authority, and no governmental official may require any person to wear a face-covering or to mandate that other person wear a covering”.

Texas is not the only state where schools are clashing with the government over mask mandates.

In Florida, mask mandates have also been banned from schools and two schools were sanctioned for defying Gov. DeSantis’s executive order.
