During Travis Scott’s Astroworld concert in Houston, a crowd surge killed 8 people and injured more than 300.
The concert was sold out and AP News places attendance at 50,000, but other sources claim as high as 100,000.
At around 10:15 the crowd rushed toward the front of the stage. Such a large volume of people rushing at the same time caused the crowd to be packed like snow.
Reports indicate that fans were pressed so tightly that they could not move their arms or even breathe. Some individuals were trampled and trapped below the feet of others.
“As soon as he jumped out on the stage, it was like an energy took over and everything went haywire. All of a sudden, your ribs are being crushed. You have someone’s arm in your neck. You’re trying to breathe, but you can’t,” said Niaara Goods, a 28 year old attendee.
Goods claimed that she bit an unknown man on his shoulder because she was so desperate to escape the madness.
Since the tragic event, Scott has released a statement indicating his feelings on the matter.
NBC report, Rapper Travis Scott said he is “absolutely devastated” after a crowd surge during his sold-out Astroworld music festival in Houston left eight people dead and numerous others injured.
“My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival, Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into the tragic loss of life,” the young rapper said.
One thing is abundantly clear: 8 people are dead and those who acted negligently and recklessly, causing this loss of life, need to be identified and held accountable if at all possible.
