A trucker convoy is planning to head to Washington, D.C., this week and shut down the Capital Beltway in protest of multiple issues.
Bob Bolus, a truck parts and towing business owner in Scranton, Pennsylvania, told FOX5 DC that he has heard hundred of people express interest in shutting down the roadway as part of the protests.
“I’ll give you an analogy of that of a giant boa constrictor,” he said. “That basically squeezes you, chokes you and it swallows you, and that’s what we’re going to do the D.C.”
FOX5 DC reported that Bolus, a supporter of former President Donald Trump, said a lane will remain open for emergency vehicles during the protest.
“We will not compromise anybody’s safety or health, one way or the other,” Bolus said. “As far as if they can’t get to work, geez that’s too bad,” he explained.
Fox News also reported that “U.S. Capitol Police are bracing for a potential “Freedom Convoy” truck protest to Washington, D.C., for the March 1 speech,” referring to Biden’s State of the Union Address.
D.C. police will have limited time off and are preparing for “civil disturbance”.
Influenced by their Canadian colleagues, American truckers have been organizing a convoy from California to Washington, D.C. There was a large Facebook page being used by organizers, but it was removed from the site.
