Rashida Tlaib, a Democratic representative from Michigan, was caught on camera Monday saying she was only wearing a mask outdoors because of a “Republican tracker” following her.
She was talking with a group outside after an event in Detroit and was overheard admitting to only wearing the mask because she was being filmed.
In the video, a maskless man apologized for not having one on after Tlaib said something about masks. She quickly said “Oh, no, oh, not you!” and pulled her mask down. “No, no, no – I’m just wearing it because I’ve got a Republican tracker here,” she added.
Tlaib is often called a hypocrite for not following the rules she pushes on others. Rep. Jim Banks shared the video on Twitter with the caption “Democrats everywhere”.
In August, Tlaib attended a wedding without a mask. The area was flagged as an orange zone, meaning high levels of COVID. She was seen dancing in a large crowd of people with no masks.
The CDC says masks are not necessary outdoors except for areas of high transmission.
