Two mass shootings have occurred in a very short period of time. One hate-driven attack in Buffalo and another on school children in Texas. Democrats see these tragedies and immediately perk up and decide it’s time to ban AR-15s.
The problem is, that rifles including the AR-15 account for less than 1.5% of homicides. Comparatively, knives account for 11%, blunt objects like bars and hammers for 3%, and bear handed murders at 4.7%
Why are democrats not working to ban knives? Bats? Hammers? Likely because these objects serve a legitimate purpose in society. Why then would the government work to ban rifles? Because a disarmed populous is vulnerable, not only to criminals but to tyrannical government action.
Of all weapons, handguns account for the most homicide at 44.73%, yet there is no push by democrats to get pistols off the streets. Why? Because in places where it is virtually impossible to obtain a handgun legally, handguns are still in mass used to commit murder.
Rather than limit the ability of law-abiding citizens to own firearms, the government needs to more swiftly act to help people with mental illnesses, and investigate threats. Above all else, schools need to be secure, armed guards need to be protecting American children.
Guns are used to protect the President, congressmen, and women, guns are used to protect jewelry stores, banks, and the citizenry. How do we protect our children? With gun-free zones, making them the most vulnerable target to a mass shooter.
Why would the Texas school shooter not choose a church, or some other public area to carry out his crime? Well, it seems as though each time someone tries to shoot up a Texas church, the gunman is subsequently gunned down by an armed bystander.
An armed populous and school guards protect the people who might otherwise be victims. a disarmed populous and defenseless schools only empower evil people looking to harm others.
Despite the amount of owned firearms in the United States having increased by roughly 10 million each year since 1993, the rate of gun-related homicide has drastically dropped by 49% according to Pew Research.
Gun ownership is not the issue. A lazy government that does little to prevent mass shootings outside of pushing gun reform is.
