New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a statement from her office on Sunday.
Ocasio-Cortez is reportedly experiencing symptoms and recovering at home. “The Congresswoman received her booster shot this fall, and encourages everyone to get their booster and follow all CDC guidance,” the statement said.
The positive test comes shortly after the congresswoman was seen maskless while on vacation in Miami.
She was photographed with her boyfriend outside of the Doraku Izakaya and Sushi restaurant on Dec. 30 and then seen maskless at a packed bar.
AOC’s maskless getaway was criticized on social media while New York was facing a record surge in COVID cases.
Florida’s lieutenant governor, Jeanette Núñez, had tweeted “@AOC’s New York state of mind clearly doesn’t mind being in the free state of Florida…mask free of course”.
Kayleigh McEnany tweeted “I guess she enjoys the freedom-loving utopia of Florida over her mandate-ridden New York!”
At the bar, AOC was seen hugging other maskless individuals and standing in a large group without her mask.
Last week, Gov. Ron DeSantis commented on the issue, saying “If I had a dollar for every lockdown politician who decided to escape to Florida over the last two years, I’d be a pretty doggone wealthy man, let me tell ya”.
