A lawsuit has been filed against the Harris County elections administrator in Texas after 10,000 mail-in ballots that weren’t originally included in the March primary were found.
The Harris County Republican Party said Elections Administrator Isabel Longoria is responsible for the “worst elections fiasco in Texas history”.
The New York Post reported that the Office of the Election Administrator “admitted to finding the 10,000 uncounted votes on Saturday, days after the primary election”.
Texas GOP Senator Paul Bettencourt said “How do you find 10,000 votes on a Saturday?” during a press conference.
There were 6,000 Democratic ballots and 4,000 Republican ballots that were reportedly scanned into a tabulation machine, but not counted on the night of the election.
“While we understand the seriousness of this error, the ability to identify and correct this issue is a result of a lengthy, rigorous process and is a positive example of the process ultimately working as it should,” said the elections office.
The votes are supposed to be tallied into the total on Tuesday before the election is certified, according to the Post.
Along with the ballots, the GOP alleges problems with voting equipment being delivered late and ballots that couldn’t be read by the tabulation machines.
The lawsuit filed by Republicans in Texas calls for Longoria to step down or be fired and court oversight in future elections.
