Texas Sues To Stop Biden From Allowing More Asylum-Seekers In US

The state of Texas is attempting to permanently stop a Biden administration rule that allows more asylum seekers to avoid deportation, according to a new report.

The lawsuit was filed Thursday by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and President Biden named as defendants.

The “suit seeks to block a DHS policy that seeks to change the processing system for immigrants who claim ‘credible fear’ of persecution in their home countries,” reported Fox News.

As of right now, immigration judges handle those cases, but the new rule would give that authority to asylum officers starting May 29.

Asylum officers would also receive the authority to parole, or release, asylum seekers into the U.S. “if they deem that detaining the migrant during the proceedings is ‘impracticable,'” explained Fox.

“The Interim Rule transfers significant authority from immigration judges to asylum officers, grants those asylum officers significant additional authority, limits immigration-judge review to denials of applications, and upends the entire adjudicatory system to the benefit of aliens,” the suit says.

Paxton filed the lawsuit to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.

Texas has argued that this policy change will result in more migrants being released into the state, costing tens of millions of dollars.

Mayorkas recently claimed before Congress that the Biden administration has “effectively managed” the ongoing border crisis, which is far from the truth.

The rate of border encounters is expected to spike to 18,000 per day in the near future, especially with the plan to end Title 42.
