Taylor Lorenz, reporter for the Washington Post, has been accused of “doxing” the anonymous person who operates the popular Twitter account “Libs of TikTok”.
Lorenz, who formerly worked for The New York Times, broke down in tears in an MSNBC interview while recounting the “harassment” she has experienced.
Ironically, she published an article on Tuesday revealing the identity of the social media user.
Doxing is the term used when someone publishes private or identifying information about another, typically with a malicious motive.
In the interview, Lorenz said “I have had to remove every single social tie. I had severe PTSD from this. I contemplated suicide. It got really bad”.
“You feel like any little piece of information that gets out on you will be used by the worst people on the Internet to destroy your life. And it’s so isolating. It’s horrifying,” she said as she began to cry.
On Monday, journalist and political commentator Jack Posobiec tweeted “BREAKING: I am told Taylor Lorenz even showed up at the homes of family members of @libsoftiktok today”.
The Libs of TikTok account also shared a photo of what appears to be Lorenz with a mask on, with the caption “Hi @TaylorLorenz! Which of my relatives did you enjoy harassing the most at their homes yesterday?”
The creator of the account, a young woman, has remained anonymous since its creation, as she is constantly the target of death threats for her content.
In the past, Lorenz also doxed the children of Pamela Geller, despite their mother being a target of ISIS.
Glenn Greenwald, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, tweeted “The same people who – just 2 weeks ago – were insisting that criticizing Taylor Lorenz is wrong because it generates ‘harassment’ toward her are now cheering as she shows up at the homes of the relatives of Twitter users to dox them. Journalists at the top of the caste order”.
Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro said “Taylor Lorenz is a terrible journalist and worse human”. “Targeting a Twitter account that literally just posts Leftists owning themselves because that account damages the Left is pure Lorenz,” he added.
Lorenz defended herself, saying “Reporters make phone calls, send messages, show up places, and knock on doors when reporting out a story”.
“I reported this story out extensively, using every tool I had, to ensure I had the correct woman,” she continued.
Lorenz claimed the creator “isn’t just some average woman with a social media account” but is a “powerful influencer operating a massively impactful right wing media shaping discourse around LGBTQ+ rights”.
