California Gov. Gavin Newsom and other Democratic leaders were seen maskless at the 49ers-Rams game despite the state’s indoor mask mandate.
On Sunday, former Lakers star Magic Johnson tweeted “Hanging out at SoFi Stadium today!” and included photos of him posing with Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and San Francisco Mayor London Breed.
None of the people in the photos were seen with masks on. In December, California implemented a universal indoor mask mandate that was extended to Feb. 15.
According to Fox News, SoFi Stadium has a mask mandate in place that requires all fans to wear masks unless they are eating or drinking.
Actor Rob Lowe is also seen in one of the photos without a mask. No one appeared to be eating or drinking.
Newsom and Breed have repeatedly faced controversy for not wearing masks despite mask mandates in their state.
The two have been seen defying their own mandates in restaurants and bars, frustrating many Americans whose children are subject to strict mask rules in school.
In September and November of 2021, Breed was caught partying maskless indoors, despite the mandate she put in place.
SoFi Stadium will also host the Super Bowl on Feb. 13, where fans will be given KN95 masks for the game. They will also be required to show proof of vaccination or provide a negative PCR test that was taken within 48 hours prior to the game.
