Maxine Waters, the House Financial Services Committee Chairwoman, has reportedly paid her daughter over $70,000 this year from campaign funds.
Through September, Karen Waters has received $74,000 in donor cash from her mother. In the last quarter alone, Waters gave her daughter $20,000.
Since 2003, Karen Waters has made over $1.1 million for working on campaigns for her mother. $250,000 was transferred to her during the 2020 election cycle.
While working on the campaigns, Karen Waters was responsible for organizing slate-mailing operations. Fox News explains that the uncommon practice is “where a consulting firm is hired to create a pamphlet of sorts that contains a list of candidates or policy measures, and advises voters how to cast their ballots”.
Supposedly, Rep. Waters was the only politician to use a slate-mailer operation in the election last year. However, Gov. Gavin Newsom and Vice President Kamala Harris have used the campaigning method in the past.
Waters’ daughter was not the only one receiving cash from her career. In 2004, Los Angeles Times exposed Waters for giving $1 million to other family members over an 8-year span.
During that time, Waters said “They do their business and I do mine”. “We are not bad people,” she added.
