Throughout Joe Biden’s time in the White House, the Press has been limited in their access to the building and events.
Joe Biden swore to “restore transparency” to the White House while on the campaign trail. Now the media is more in the dark than ever before. The President barely holds press events where reporters can actually ask him questions, and reporters are often pre-chosen before events when they do happen.
The Daily Caller reported, Nearly 70 journalists signed a letter Thursday requesting increased access to traditional White House venues and key events in a letter to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre
The letter demanded that conventional venues on White House grounds be open to the press once again. Signatures came from reporters of several major outlets.
The letter said, “The current method of allowing a limited number of reporters into these events is not only restrictive and antithetical to the concept of a free press but it has been done without any transparent process into how reporters are selected to cover these events.”
If reporters are left in the dark, so is the rest of the nation. Journalists are our window into the government. Without them, we’d never know what’s going on.
“We are all left wondering who is making these decisions and what are the criteria on which they are based?” The letter continued.
The letter revealed that in order to interact with the President, reporters are made to file a request prior to events. The letter argued that this requirement should be removed – interaction with the President is essential to the nature of a White House correspondent’s job.
