Elon Musk has been accused of buying Twitter because Donald Trump “quietly encouraged” him to do so. It didn’t take long for the world’s richest man to deny the claim.
“President Trump, basically before Elon Musk bought it, actually said to go and buy it because the goal of our company is really to build a community where people are in a family-friendly, safe environment,” Devin Nunes said in a Fox Business interview.
Elon denied the allegation on Twitter, “This is false. I’ve had no communication, directly or indirectly, with Trump, who has publicly stated that he will be exclusively on Truth Social.”
After all, why would Trump encourage Elon to buy Twitter knowing that it would attract conservatives away from Truth?
Nunes thinks that it’s because Trump wanted to take power away from “Tech Tyrants”
“That’s why we encouraged Elon Musk to buy it because someone has to take on these tech tyrants, Donald Trump wanted to make sure that the American people got their voice back and that the internet was open and that’s what we are doing.” He said.
Though Trump does appear to want to cripple big tech monopolies on speech, the idea that he was in cahoots with Musk seems to be based on nothing other than Nunes’ imagination.
