Convicted New Jersey cop-killer and part of the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorist list, Assata Shakur (Joanne Chesimard), featured on the Black Lives Matter (BLM) At School program website. New York City public schools adopted the BLM program on November 18, 2020. The resolution was passed by the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) union with 90% support of the voting delegation. The school program is from February 1-5, 2021.
Her quote reads, “It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains.”
“Nothing to lose, but our chains” is a variation of the Communist Manifesto’s, “The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains.”
This created outrage from the New York City Police Banevelant’s Association (NYC PBA) and voiced their opinion on Twitter. In the tweet, they called for the NYC School’s Chancellor, Richard Carranza, to apologize for “glorifying” cop-killers.
Carranza still hasn’t responded or apologized.
