Guatemalan President Blames Biden Admin for Border Crisis, Harris Warns People to Not Come

Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei says the Biden administration is at fault for the border crisis while U.S. Vice President, Kamala Harris, blames climate change.

In an interview with CBS News, Giammattei said, “We asked the United States government to send more of a clear message to prevent more people from leaving. The message changed too: ‘We’re going to reunite families, we’re going to reunite children. The very next day, the coyotes were here organizing groups of children to take them to the United States.”

Last month Harris said, “I’m thinking of corruption, violence, and poverty, the lack of economic opportunity, the lack of climate adaptation and climate resilience, the lack of good governance.”

The Federalist wrote, “In April, U.S.-Mexico border detentions reached a 21-year monthly high when over 178,000 migrants illegally crossed the border. A number of these unaccompanied minors and families who cross the U.S.-Mexico border come from Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. Giammattei argues that the region’s climate and economy aren’t the prime culprits for the unprecedented rise in illegal U.S.-Mexico border crossings, but that the Biden administration’s immigration policies are to blame.”

GOP Chairwoman, Ronna McDaniel, called out Harris via Twitter on her lack of interest in the crisis, citing that Harris hasn’t been to the border in 75 days.

Republican Senators, Ted Cruz, retweeted the Fox News interview with the El Salvadorian President who is also discontent with the surging illegal immigration crisis sprawling through the Northern Triangle.

“And so I am in Guatemala today to discuss and advance our shared priorities,” Harris told Giammattei in a joint press conference, “Foremost among those, as you have mentioned, is addressing migration from this region in particular.”

She also said, “Do not come. Do not come. The United States will continue to enforce our laws and secure our border. If you come to our border, you will be turned back. So let’s discourage our friends or neighbors or family members from embarking on what is otherwise an extremely dangerous journey.”
