The left often reminds the conservative wing that the first amendment protects Americans from government censored speech, not from private businesses.
So what is to be done when the government creates a federally enforced monopoly on media companies and uses its subsidies to influence the way that these private companies censor users?
The Daily Caller reported, The Biden administration reportedly pressured Twitter to remove the account of Alex Berenson, a former New York Times reporter and prominent critic of Biden’s COVID-19 policies, according to documents obtained and published by Berenson.
The pressure caused Twitter to cave, and Twitter suspended Berenson’s account on August 28th, 2021. Later Twitter acknowledged that the tweet did not actually violate their guidelines.
According to documents pertaining to a lawsuit Barenson filed against Twitter, the White House had pressured the company to ban him while Twitter had found no legitimate reason to do so.
“I believe these documents show that the Biden administration violated my First Amendment rights in pressuring Twitter to ban me, and I look forward to suing the administration in federal court,” the Journalist said in a statement.
One Twitter employee claims that the White House accused Barenson of being the “epicenter of disinfo that radiated outwards to the persuadable public.”
The government has no right to engage in activities that would cause censorship of speech to any free American.
