A young woman lost partial vision and was permanently disfigured when her boyfriend threw acid on her face during a rampage – but that didn’t stop her from marrying him.
The man allegedly screamed “if I can’t have you, then nobody can” just prior to chemically burning his partner’s face.
For most, this would mean an immediate restraining order and hopefully prison time. But it didn’t stop this Turkish woman from spending the rest of her life with the man who made it much harder.
Berfin Ozek is only 20 years old, while her abuser, Casim Ozan Celtik, is 23. According to reports, they had separated for a time. Two years after the incident, they took their vows.
The New York Post reported that “Left partially blind, Ozak filed a police complaint against Celtik at the time and he was subsequently arrested. However, he reportedly love-bombed her with messages of reconciliation and begged for her forgiveness”.
Seemingly, the pleas for redemption worked. The young woman withdrew her complaint against him and gave full forgiveness.
“We have written many letters to each other. I have given myself to him. I love him very much, and he loves me very much,” Ozan said.
It was social media users that made her realize her mistake. She reinstated her complaint against the 23-year-old attacker. Unfortunately after being sentenced to 13.5 years in prison he was released due to COVID-19.
Celtik was placed on probation and as of right now will not be expected to return to his cell. It wasn’t until after he was released that the pair wed. The ‘romance’ was rekindled as he wrote Ozan letters from prison.
