Although the Uvalde, Texas police department and local school district police were cooperating with the state Department of Public Safety investigation after a school shooting, the chief of the school police has not responded for a follow-up.

A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman said the Uvalde Police Department and Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District police force have been talking to authorities.

Last week during a press conference, Steven McCraw, the head of the Texas Department of Public Safety, said the delayed police response to the mass shooting was “the wrong decision”.

According to ABC News, a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety said “The Uvalde Police Department and Uvalde CISD Police have been cooperating with investigators”.

“The chief of the Uvalde CISD Police provided an initial interview but has not responded to a request for a follow-up interview with the Texas Rangers that was made two days ago,” the statement said.

Pete Arredondo, the Uvalde school district police chief, has not responded to Texas Rangers in two days for a follow-up interview, reported Fox News.

While the suspected shooter Salvador Ramos, 18, targeted Robb Elementary School, authorities waited in a hallway for nearly 50 minutes before moving in.

McCraw said that Arredondo thought the situation was no longer an active shooter, instead a barricaded subject, and that they had time to wait for equipment and keys to unlock the classroom’s door.
