Former President Trump announced Saturday that he has endorsed Dr. Mehmet Oz for the U.S. Senate seat in Pennsylvania.

“The Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has a tremendous opportunity to Save America by electing the brilliant and well-known Dr. Mehmet Oz for the United States Senate,” Trump’s statement said.

“I have known Dr. Oz for many years, as have many others, even if only through his very successful television show. He has lived with us through the screen and has always been popular, respected, and smart,” he added.

Trump said he was giving his “complete and total endorsement” to Oz for his stance on abortion, crime, the Second Amendment, border security, the military, education, energy independence and election fraud.

“I believe that Mehmet Oz will be the one most able to win the General Election against a Radical Left Democrat looking to do unthinkable harm to our Country,” the former president continued.

Trump had previously announced his endorsement for early frontrunner Sean Parnell in the Pennsylvania race in August, but Parnell’s campaign was suspended after a custody battle and allegations of abuse.

Oz responded to Trump’s endorsement in a statement on Saturday, saying he’s proud to receive the endorsement.

“I am honored to receive President Trump’s full support and endorsement, and I thank him for that. President Trump knows how critical it is to change the kinds of people we send to Washington,” he tweeted.

Despite endorsement from Trump, many are frustrated with Oz’s past comments and stances. Sean Parnell tweeted “You’re not America First. You’re not a conservative. You’re not even from Pennsylvania. Hell no”.

Human Events host Jack Posobiec has posted a series of tweets pointing out Oz’s history. “Dr Oz is pro-choice, anti-gun. This isn’t even up for debate,” he said.
