Despite failing to defeat Governor Phil Murphy, the state of New Jersey has ended up with an unexpected potential victory that will change the political environment of the state.
Ed Durr, a truck driver who spent only $5,000 on his general election campaign, and filmed his social media advertisement on an iPhone rests on the verge of defeating longtime Senate President Steve Sweeny.
This race, if won by Durr will uproot Democrat leadership in the state Senate and allow for more sensible policy.
Durr explained on Fox News that his possible win is not an achievement of his own, but rather one of the people. He expressed that the people have had enough of Democrat leadership in the Senate.
He conveyed that it seemed like Sweeny had stood idly by while New Jersey lost 1/3 of its businesses due to lockdowns and COVID-19 restrictions.
“I didn’t beat him. We beat him, the state of New Jersey, the people of New Jersey beat him. They listened to what I had to say and I listened to what they had to say, and it’s a repudiation of Governor Murphy went and locked us down and ignored the people’s voice and senator Sweeney chose to do nothing for those 18 months,”
Durr’s prospective victory is the will of the people. The underdog has risen up and defeated an incumbent due to what Durr describes as “the perfect storm.”
