Antiwar activists recently gathered outside Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s district office, pushing her to support legislation to end U.S. involvement in foreign conflicts.
According to Antiwar.com, the protesters are against the U.S.’ support of Saudi Arabia, which is currently involved in conflict with Houthi rebels in Yemen.
They demand that AOC “take action consistent with antiwar principles” and introduce legislation that would end violence.
Some of the protesters’ signs read “AOC bides her time, Yemen starves” and “AOC: Complacent Complicit Coward!”
Another sign called AOC a “fake progressive” and a “real imperialist”. They were seen in videos taping the posters outside the congresswoman’s office.
One video shows the protesters entering the building where AOC’s office is located and arguing with a security guard. After getting around the guard, they made their way to her office and taped up posters.
“For a member of the United States Congress, as AOC is, what she can do is introduce legislation to invoke the war powers act,” said one protester. “We are here doing our part, demanding that she do hers”.
Activists told Antiwar.com that AOC’s position in Congress allows her the ability to take action against the conflict.
New York Peace Action Fund Chair Sally Jones tweeted “We know you can help @RepAOC to end war in Yemen. We are here at your Jackson Heights office. Do you hear us? #YemenCantWait”
Radical group Flame of Liberation said “Out front or congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s office in NYC yesterday calling on her to take at least some action to try to stop the genocidal war against Yemen, which she claimed to be against. #ForceTheVote signs to show we know what’s going on”.
