On Tuesday, Governor Greg Abbott said Texas will be using Texas National Guard and Department of Public Safety vehicles to create a “steel barrier” along the southern border.
The Del Rio area has seen over 15,000 migrants cross into the United States in the last week. This is where the vehicles will be parked to form a protective barrier.
Abbott spoke out about the new strategy saying “One day there were countless people coming across the border, then the DPS put up all these DPS vehicles, and suddenly, in an instant, people stopped crossing the border in this location. That strategy is working”. “They have created a steel barrier preventing people from being able to cross the border”, he stated.
In a news conference Tuesday, Abbott reported “It has been the state of Texas that has had to step up”. “Failure to enforce laws that exist in the United States leads to chaos and chaos leads to inhumanity”, he said.
According to Abbott, the state of Texas has had to spend $3 billion on border security due to the lack of involvement from the Biden Administration.
Thousands of migrants are still waiting under the bridge to be processed. A report earlier in the week revealed that several government agencies have been transporting migrants on planes to various cities around the country and releasing them.
President Joe Biden vowed Tuesday to get the crisis under control after admitting that the administration does not have it under control at the moment.
