A man from Florida is being fined $50 a day for displaying “Trump Won” and “Let’s Go Brandon” banners at his home.
Marvin Peavy lives in Walton County and has hung the three-story-tall banners from his house, according to WMBB.
Peavy explained “I’m here on the beach, and I got a lot of traffic, and people needed to see what I believe in”. “That’s free speech, and I wanted everyone to know that I’m a republican and I’m supporting Donald Trump”.
According to a compliance magistrate, the “Trump Won” banner violates Walton County’s land development code. Walton County Code Compliance Official Michael Lynch said the violation has nothing to do with the banner’s content.
Peavy says he has no intentions to remove the signs from his home.
Bill Fletcher, Chairman of the Walton County Republican Executive Committee, said “People admire people that stand up, and we have got to start standing up”. “He is the epitome of somebody who will stand up for his First Amendment right,” he said about Peavy.
A hearing over the banners is scheduled for Nov. 17 and Peavy’s fines will be due if he is found in violation of the code again.
