Are you ready for another lockdown? It’s been too long since everything in your life revolves around the COVID-19 virus. Anthony Fauci thinks it might be time to go back.
During a Sunday interview with BBC, the White House Chief Medical Advisor expressed that coronavirus restrictions may make a comeback despite the recent drawdown.
Fauci was asked if a new variant could cause future lockdowns and or mandates of masks and vaccines. The medical advisor was certainly standoffish.
“I don’t want to use the word ‘lockdowns.’ That has a charged element to it. But, I believe that we must keep our eye on the pattern of what we’re seeing with infections,” he said seeming to indicate that new restrictions were a possibility.
“Having said that, we need to be prepared for the possibility that we would have another variant that would come along, and then, if things change and we do get a variant that does give us an uptick in cases and hospitalization, we should be prepared and flexible enough to pivot toward going back, at least temporarily, to a more rigid type of restrictions, such as requiring masks indoors.”
Omicron, and the new Omicron BA.2 sub-variant are highly transmissible, there’s no doubt about that. However, these strains of the COVID-19 virus are not nearly as lethal as former variants like Delta, or even Alpha.
The high transmissibility and low lethality according to scientists creates a scenario where the unvaccinated catch the virus, obtain natural immunity, and do not die. This is the natural course of most viruses.
Over time, they become more infectious and less lethal. Spreading more easily and killing far less.
