Chicago Mayor, Lori Lightfoot announced early this month, that any journalist who is not “black or brown” would be ineligible for a one on one interview. Since that time, no white reporters have been unable to score one.
This was discrimination on the basis of racial identity from an elected government official. The unfair treatment of white reporters doesn’t come without backlash. The Daily Caller News Foundation has filed a lawsuit against the Mayor.
“The Daily Caller News Foundation and Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit against Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Thursday over the mayor’s refusal to grant Thomas Catenacci, a white reporter, an interview.
The lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, alleges that Lightfoot’s denial violates the DCNF and Catenacci’s First Amendment rights and Catenacci’s right to equal protection under the Fourteenth Amendment.” The Daily Caller wrote.
The left has adopted a doctrine, that racial discrimination is only racist, when it’s directed towards a minority group. Behavior, that would in all other circumstances be considered racist is not when directed at a white person.
Lightfoot claims that this move is in the name of “diversity”. However, there is nothing “diverse” about including only certain racial groups. This, in fact, is the opposite of diversity. Diversity shows a great deal of variety. In this case, that verity would be in the form of race and ethnicity. Lightfoots actions limit that variety.
“It’s absurd that an elected official believes she can discriminate on the basis of race,” Daily Caller’s Editor-in-Chief said regarding the matter.
The Daily Caller’s Thomas Catenacci who doesn’t meet Lightfoot’s racial criteria sought an interview regarding COVID 19 vaccinations. Catenacci was not granted an interview, and it is the belief of the DCNF that this is a result of his race.
“Preventing journalists from doing our jobs in such a blatantly discriminatory way is wrong and does a disservice to our readers who come from all backgrounds. Every journalist and every person who consumes the news should be concerned by Mayor Lightfoot’s actions.” The white journalist said.
Catenacci said that he looks forward to holding Lori Lightfoot “accountable for her actions”.
