The United States has spent nearly 20 years in Afghanistan.
After announcing a September 11th goal for withdrawal, Biden will be pulling troops on August 31st.
Biden defended his decision by saying that if America didn’t leave the region now, that they’d be there indefinitely.
Members of the Democrat party like Senator Chris Murphy whipped to his side, claiming that another 30-50 years of fighting would change nothing.
“Staying one more year in Afghanistan means we stay forever, because if 20 years of laborious training and equipping of the Afghan security forces had this little impact on their ability to fight, then another 50 years wouldn’t change anything,” Murphy proclaimed.
The New York Post reported, As US soldiers have departed, Taliban fighters have moved to reconquer the country at lightning speed. Half of Afghanistan’s provincial capitals have fallen under their control and the religious zealots are closing in on the capital Kabul.
Biden says he remains committed to the withdrawal, but this week ordered 3,000 US soldiers back to the country to help with an emergency evacuation of the US embassy.
Nancy Pelosi claims that a focus on Iran has greatly diverted efforts from the Taliban.
The party closed ranks around the President, and defended his choice, despite its ramifications.
