Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has come under scrutiny as Special Counsel John Durham released a report that revealed numerous missteps by the DOJ and FBI during the Trump-Russia investigation. Pelosi, who has been relatively quiet, has yet to comment on the report after several requests from Fox News Digital.
The report concluded that “the Department and the FBI failed to uphold their mission of strict fidelity to the law” during the origins of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.
Interestingly, Pelosi has been an outspoken critic of the Trump administration and their alleged collusion with Russia. She has yet to publicly retract any of her past insinuations despite Durham’s report casting serious doubt on the legitimacy of the collusion narrative she vehemently pressed.
MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow also dismissed the report, which is hardly surprising given how long she peddled the collusion narrative without any solid evidence to back up her allegations.
In 2018, Pelosi called for then-Speaker of the House Paul Ryan to establish a commission to “get to the bottom of the Trump campaign’s role in Russia’s assault on our democracy.” Clearly, Pelosi was convinced that the allegations of collusion were legitimate and worthy of a thorough investigation.
Durham’s investigation has also found that “senior FBI personnel displayed a serious lack of analytical rigor towards the information that they received, especially information received from politically-affiliated persons and entities.” This is a serious and troubling finding that demands decisive action and accountability.
Notably, President Trump has called for former FBI Director James Comey and other Democrats involved in pushing the Russian collusion narrative to pay a heavy price in response to the report. Pelosi, who once called Comey a “great man” back in July 2016, has been surprisingly silent on the issue.
It is important to remember that collusion has been arguably the most significant issue affecting Trump’s presidency since the 2016 election. Despite numerous investigations and allegations, there has been no concrete evidence of Trump’s collusion with Russia.
Durham’s report is not just a win for President Trump and his supporters; it is a win for anyone who believes in the rule of law and upholding the integrity of our institutions.
The fact that members of the FBI and DOJ were willing to overlook their mission of strict fidelity to the law in order to promote a politically-motivated investigation should alarm and outrage all Americans, regardless of political affiliation.
Moving forward, it is important that all those involved in the investigation face consequences for their actions. The American people deserve transparency and accountability, and Durham’s report is just the first step towards achieving that goal.
While Pelosi continues to remain quiet on the issue, others must take up the mantle of holding those responsible accountable.
