MassGOP Pursues Disclosure on Migrant Emergency Aid Spending

The MassGOP officially sent out requests under the Freedom of Information Act to numerous state executive branches on Tuesday, aiming for the complete disclosure of documents related to the ongoing migrant situation.

In the previous week, public announcements made by the MassGOP suggested that the Healey-Driscoll regime was intentionally obscuring the exact allocation of tax-derived funds used for emergency accommodation aid programs.

The GOP also raised safety questions related to the emergency shelters, referencing the multitude of reported incidents involving emergency services, but with each case’s details being omitted from public records.

This week’s submission under the Freedom of Information Act is a part of the ongoing endeavor to obtain this crucial data that the GOP argues should be accessible to the general public.

Included in the FOIA requests are demands for comprehensive lists of suppliers offering food and services to these emergency lodging centers, and the precise amounts they receive from the government for their services.

Also requested are in-depth records of an alarming ‘600 incidents involving police, fire, and medical emergencies’ that occurred within the premises of these state-funded emergency accommodation centers.

Massachusetts GOP’s Chair, Amy Carnevale, voiced in a statement that her party is ‘determined to push back against the shroud of non-disclosure and attempt to block, as we believe that enough is enough and we require accountability.’

This action to request information via the FOIA follows a string of demands for greater transparency and accountability by the MassGOP, which were initiated when Secretary of the Commonwealth, Bill Galvin, temporarily took the reins last week.

However, Bill Galvin declined to provide any commentary or respond to these demands.

A representative from Galvin’s office noted during the previous week that the Public Records Division is endeavoring to make all the requested documents accessible to the greatest extent possible, in accordance with state legislation.
