Reports online say that Tamara Lich, a “Freedom Convoy” organizer, has been arrested by police in Ottawa.
Videos have been shared on social media that show Lich being detained by Ottawa police.
An account that is supposedly connected to the convoy shared the video, saying, “Tamara Lich has been arrested, but we will continue to #holdtheline”.
CBC News reporter David Cochrane tweeted, “Convoy organizer Tamara Lich was arrested Thursday evening by Ottawa police and also remains in police custody”.
“Both she and Chris Barber – who was arrested earlier – are expected to be charged criminally, according to sources,” Cochrane added.
Lich was the person who started the GoFundMe account for the Freedom Convoy, which was later halted.
In a video posted to social media, Lich thanked others for standing with her and said she is “not afraid”.
“There’s a pretty good chance – well I think it’s inevitable at this point – but, uh, I’ll probably be going somewhere tomorrow where I’ll be getting three square meals a day. And that’s OK,” she said in the video.
Another organizer of the Freedom Convoy, Chris Barber, was arrested Thursday in Ottawa.
According to the CBC, Barber, a senior leader, is expected to face criminal charges. He previously said that politicians have rejected an offer to engage in “serious dialogue”.
Earlier this week, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act, which allows the government to tow vehicles and even freeze personal bank accounts.
“This is about keeping Canadians safe, protecting peoples’ jobs and restoring faith in our institutions,” Trudeau said.
