Federal Government Starts Massive New Mexico Wildfire – Won’t Cover Damage Costs

The United States government has started the largest recorded wildfire in New Mexico history but is offering to pay for only some damages.

The Daily Caller reported, U.S. Forest Service (USFS) officials lost control of two controlled burns in April, destroying 341,000 acres and 432 homes in northeastern New Mexico, according to MSN. President Joe Biden claimed that the federal government would cover “100% of the cost” of the disaster, but the disaster declaration ultimately only covered the cost of debris removal and emergency protective measures, leaving many victims stuck with programs that require buy-in to rebuild their houses and other necessary infrastructure

The family of Dan Encianis who lost a five-bedroom house, 8 acres of land and farm machinery was given the maximum payout of $37,000 despite the USDA telling the rancher that he’d see “little to no cost”. Obviously, Encianis loss was far greater than $37,000

Encianis is now forced to live in a trailer on his destroyed property with his wife, three kids, and an array of animals including cats, dogs, and even cows.

“The federal government burns your house down so they are responsible in my mind to pay 100% of the cost of rebuilding,” said a democrat from New Mexico, Representative Teresa Leger Fernandez.

Why wouldn’t the federal government be 100% responsible for hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars in damage caused by their own negligence and poor operation management?

“Why the hell am I going to pay anything when I didn’t cause this damn fire?” Dan Encianis said.
