During a standup comedy show in Dallas, New York comedian Chrissie Mayr made a controversial joke about transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, referencing her gender-affirming top surgery and her lack of growth in feminine features after becoming a woman. Chrissie Mayr told the audience at Hyena’s Comedy Nightclub, ‘Why has it been a year of girlhood and still no tits? That’s day one, OK?’ This caused some members of the sensitive audience to angrily leave the venue.
Mayr continued her joke by comparing her own hypothetical transition: ‘If I’m transitioning to a dude, day one I’m getting a c–k – and I’m getting the biggest one you can find.’ She went on to say, ‘Why no tits for Dylan? I don’t understand.’ An audience member responded in agreement, ‘Because he’s a man!’ Mayr, also in agreement, replied, ‘Because he’s a man!’
However, the joke did not sit well with some sensitive audience members, who then expressed their outrage. One female yelled, ‘No! She’s a woman.’ To which Mayr replied, ‘Uh-oh! We have one of those. It’s all good. We can all have different beliefs. It’s OK. Some of us can believe in reality…’
Dylan Mulvaney is a 26-year-old transgender influencer who documented her male-to-female transition on TikTok starting in March 2021. Mulvaney gained popularity on the platform, as well as through partnerships with brands promoting diversity. She was recently in the spotlight when Bud Light featured her face on their cans, commemorating her ‘year of girlhood’ despite her biologically male roots.
As Mayr continued her humor, several women were seen leaving the performance. One woman was heard yelling, ‘–k you, transphobe!’ before storming out of the venue. Mayr responded, ‘Is that the best you can do?’ garnering cheers and applause from the audience.
Mulvaney has reportedly earned over $1 million from endorsements with fashion and beauty brands such as Kate Spade, Ulta Beauty, Haus Labs, and CeraVe. In addition, she has teamed up with Nike. Critics have called the partnership ‘a slap to the face.’
Since the controversial Bud Light partnership, many celebrities have taken to social media to share their thoughts on the matter, with some even calling for a boycott of all Anheuser-Busch drinks. Among those voicing their opinions is Kid Rock, who posted a video of him firing at Bud Light cans.
Country music star Travis Tritt showed his disapproval by tweeting, ‘I will be deleting all Anheuser-Busch products from my tour hospitality rider. I know many other artists who are doing the same.’ Anheuser-Busch has since defended its decision to enlist Mulvaney as a Bud Light brand influencer, despite the growing backlash.
According to Anheuser-Busch, the cans featuring Mulvaney’s face were a personal gift, and she is among hundreds of influencers who collaborate with the company. Mayr posted a clip of her performance on Twitter, showcasing the moment her transgender joke led to some audience members angrily walking out.
Mayr also revealed how the offended audience members caused a scene, knocking over her merchandise table as they left. She stated that progressivism and comedy are ‘not compatible,’ adding, ‘This is the conflict when it comes to comedy and Leftists. It’s just not compatible.’
When speaking with Fox News Digital, Mayr elaborated on the incident and how it highlights the current perception of comedy. She said, ‘They can’t have it both ways. Leftists want to be culture makers but also want certain groups exempt from ridicule.’
Mayr argued that true equality means no group should be safe from being made fun of, saying, ‘If you believe in true equality, then there’s no such thing as punching down. No group should be safe from being made fun of. I will keep making fat jokes and trans jokes because I enjoy it, and the crowds clearly do too.’
The comedian emphasized that people will continue to enjoy great comedy despite the prevailing atmosphere of political correctness. ‘The only joke a comedian should stop doing is one that doesn’t get a laugh. Just because society pretends to be more woke and evolved doesn’t mean people don’t still laugh at the same things as we did 20, 30, 40 years ago,’ Mayr told ox News.
Mulvaney, who gained social media fame through her documented gender transition, has faced immense backlash from critics after her Bud Light partnership. Celebrities have also weighed in on the controversy, with some following suit in calling for a boycott of all Anheuser-Busch drinks.
For instance, musician Kid Rock shared a video of him shooting at Bud Light cans, while country star Travis Tritt vowed to remove all Anheuser-Busch products from his tour bus. As the debate continues, it appears that comedy remains a battlefield in today’s society, with comedians like Chrissie Mayr pushing the envelope and challenging the boundaries of political correctness.
