During a recent episode of “The View,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg shared an experience where she believed a Staten Island bakery declined her order for a Charlotte Russe dessert due to political differences. Goldberg, who had requested the dessert—a favorite of her late mother—for her birthday celebration on the show, mentioned that the bakery cited oven issues as the reason for not fulfilling the order. She speculated that the refusal might have been politically motivated, stating, “Perhaps they did not like my politics.”

The bakery in question, Holtermann’s Bakery, responded to these claims. Owner Jill Holtermann explained that the decision was unrelated to Goldberg’s political views. She clarified that the bakery was experiencing boiler problems in their 1930s-era building, which affected their baking capacity. Holtermann stated, “I didn’t want to make a commitment that I can’t carry through,” emphasizing that the refusal was solely due to equipment issues. Despite these challenges, the bakery managed to prepare 50 Charlotte Russe desserts, which were picked up on the morning of November 13.
