In a recent interview, Carlson unveiled a never-before-seen letter as part of his conversation with Archer. This letter disclosed an exchange between then-Vice President Joe Biden and Devon Archer, who happened to be Hunter Biden’s business partner at the time.
Carlson started off by asking Archer about the skills Hunter possessed that made him a valuable asset to the various businesses he was involved in.
Archer acknowledged that Hunter’s knowledge of Washington DC, his influential network, and the esteemed Biden ‘brand’ played a significant role in his ability to secure these positions.
He expressed uncertainty about whether Hunter would have achieved the same level of success without the Biden name, stating that the Biden brand holds immense power when your father is the vice president.
Carlson delved further into the complexities of private equity, highlighting the need for expertise in regulatory matters. Archer explained that while Hunter often led teams of experts, he himself may not have possessed an in-depth understanding of the intricate regulatory landscape.
Instead, Hunter excelled at connecting individuals with his family members, particularly his brother and father, and other influential figures in Washington. Archer described Washington as a city where people engage in ‘selling access’ to expedite their agenda and bypass regulations.
Hunter’s proximity to power and familiarity with the workings of Washington presented a unique advantage for him in various business ventures.
Archer then touched upon the consequences that followed Hunter’s ‘Icarus situation.’ He became too entwined with influential figures, attracting excessive scrutiny that ultimately led to the downfall of numerous businesses over the years.
Additionally, Archer acknowledged the frequency at which then-Vice President Joe Biden was contacted during Hunter and Devon’s business meetings, estimating around 20 instances over the course of a decade. Archer mentioned that Biden was aware of his son’s business associates, including Archer himself and other colleagues from their DC and New York offices. Biden’s involvement in these calls provided a sense of power and influence.
Archer criticized the abuse of what he called ‘soft power,’ referring to the unstructured access that Biden had to these business conversations when he would call in.
The capability to have such discussions outside of scheduled meetings with someone who is part of your family was seen as the pinnacle of power in Washington, according to Archer. He labeled it as an abuse of influence.
Archer reminisced about his initial encounter with Joe Biden at the 2000 DNC convention. However, his relationship with Hunter began in 2008 when they discussed transitioning from lobbying to strategic advising and ultimately establishing a private equity fund.
Later in the interview, Carlson revealed a 2011 letter from then-Vice President Biden to Archer, expressing disappointment at not having the chance to meet and thank him during a lunch event due to his prior commitment to hosting China’s President Hu.
Biden even added a handwritten note on the letter, expressing his happiness over Archer and Hunter partnering on various foreign deals. Watch Part 1 here.
