The New York Police Department and the Bronx District Attorney’s Office have taken command of an inquiry following the disturbing discovery of an incinerated corpse inside a shopping cart located in Yonkers. Both entities are at the forefront of a murder investigation that originally commenced in Yonkers earlier this week, which is now associated with human remains detected inside an apartment located in Longwood.
The police reported that a search warrant executed at a residence situated at 903 Rogers Place in the Bronx resulted in them uncovering various items of interest. These items include a firearm, equipment related to drugs, and perhaps most notably, human remains discovered within a kitchen and a bedroom late on Monday night.
There is speculation among the investigators that this gruesome scene may be linked to the burnt body that was found earlier contained within a shopping cart. The discovery took place in Yonkers when law enforcement officers were responding to reports of a fire breaking out on a sidewalk on late Monday morning.
Upon the arrival of authorities to the reported area situated near the Oak Street Bridge to extinguish the flames, they were met with a shocking sight. According to the responding officers, they ended up discovering a human body amid the smoldering embers.
Yonkers police has suggested their location might have served only as a makeshift disposal site for the remains. Their city, they noted, could have been conveniently chosen as a simple ‘dump site’ for the unfortunate victim’s body by the person, or people, involved in the heinous act.
An official statement from the NYPD indicated that the primary department engaged in the investigation is their Bronx homicide squad. Alongside them, the 41st Precinct is also deeply involved in the investigatory proceedings following this alarming incident.
As of current information available, the identity of the victim tied to these chilling discoveries remains a mystery. Neither law enforcement nor medical personal involved have been able to provide a naming or an identification of the deceased individual.
