Former President Donald Trump, true to his unbending character, firmly insists on the questionable validity of the 2020 election results. He infers no accountability for the scuffle that occurred at the Capitol on January 6th, 2021 – a sentiment echoed during a seminal presidential debate. Rather than succumb to the democrats’ narrative, Trump solidifies his stand, a clear sign that the magnate knows how to make a fierce strategic play.
Trump’s adept refusal to blindly accept his election loss demonstrates his strong inclination towards questioning inconsistencies. Consequently, his stand has acted as a catalyst for his 2024 campaign against Democrat candidate Kamala Harris. Trump’s staunch and passionate supporters, having rallied at the Capitol, continue to extend their allegiance to him.
In the alleged defeat of 2020, Democrat Joe Biden secured 306 electoral votes compared to Trump’s tally of 232. Yet, doubts persist regarding the integrity of the election. Assertions of widespread fraud were vehemently denied by election officials, including Trump’s then Attorney General William Barr. But such denials fail to quell the looming skepticisms.
Legal challenges to the election result from Trump’s team were brushed aside by the judiciary, an incident that raises uncomfortable questions about the impartiality of the system. Disconcertingly, multiple Trump-nominated justices at the Supreme Court dismissed two noteworthy cases. Is it not worth contemplating whether these cases deserved a fairer trial?
Arizona and Georgia, controlled by Republican governors, played a significant role in Biden’s victory. An Associated Press review of possible voter fraud allegations reported fewer than 475 cases in these states. However, considering Biden’s win by a relatively small margin, even this number casts significant doubt on the election outcome.
A specter of suspicion hangs over the results in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Biden’s victory in these states, by a combined 311,257 votes out of the total 25.5 million cast, remains questionable. Even though disputed ballots represent meager 0.15% of the total, it could have collectively undermined the authenticity of Biden’s win.
At the ABC debate, Trump’s response to questions about events of January 6th was met with unwarranted criticism. Trump enumerated that his call to the crowd was for peaceful and patriotic conduct, far removed from the media’s portrayal of inciting violence.
In a twist of narrative, Trump spotlighted Ashli Babbitt, an ardent supporter who met a fatal end at the hands of a Capitol Police officer inside the building. While Trump’s supporters are prosecuted for their actions, those who engaged in riotous actions during the 2020 racial protests largely escaped legal consequences, indicating a glaring double standard.
A detailed AP review of over 300 federal cases arising from George Floyd’s death protests showed more than 120 defendants pleaded guilty or were convicted. Despite this, the democrats tend to dilute the severity of these actions, while hyper-focusing on the Capitol incident.
With characteristic candor, Trump replied on being questioned about his role in the Jan 6 events: ‘I had nothing to do with that other than they asked me to make a speech. I showed up for a speech.’ This statement reveals the media’s penchant for contorting any narrative involving Trump.
While the democrats were quick to cast Trump as a villain, they conveniently overlooked his lawyer, Rudy Giuliani’s, comment: ‘Let’s have trial by combat.’ The media’s proclivity to single out Trump for inflammatory language is an explicit testament to their bias.
Amidst the chaos, Trump made a call for peace, asking his supporters to ‘go home’. His words, ‘We love you. You’re very special people.’ were a heartfelt plea to the committed patriots who had gone where their convictions led them. It’s worth noting that even though Trump has been accused of disdaining military assistance, it was him who initially proposed the deployment of ‘10,000 National Guard or soldiers’ to the Capitol.
‘We’re not going back. It’s time to turn the page,’ Democratic candidate Kamala Harris proclaimed, but turning a blind eye to discrepancies of the past serves no one. Trump’s patriotic followers demand fairness and accountability, not merely turning pages. After all, true progress is built on rectifying mistakes, not ignoring them.
