Tom Homan, President-elect Donald Trump’s designated border czar, has criticized Democratic policies following a tragic incident in New York City where an illegal immigrant allegedly murdered a woman by setting her on fire in the subway.

The suspect, a 33-year-old Guatemalan national, had previously been deported by the Trump administration in 2018 after illegally crossing the border. It remains unclear when and where he re-entered the United States.

Homan expressed his concerns, stating, “This is another example of an illegal alien killing an American citizen. It’s almost a daily occurrence now.” He attributed the rise in such incidents to current administration policies and sanctuary jurisdictions that, in his view, lead to lax immigration enforcement.

He further criticized Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for restricting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, alleging that they are prevented from arresting and removing illegal aliens unless they’ve been convicted of serious crimes.

Addressing New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Homan said, “Shame on her. She supports sanctuary status in that state. She welcomed thousands of illegal aliens to her state.” He also referenced policies that, according to him, hinder collaboration between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities.

The incident has intensified debates over immigration policies and public safety, with calls for stricter enforcement measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
