The heightened interest in the anticipated 2024 presidential race can’t be overstated, with supporters of former Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris showing equal levels of engagement. Nowadays, 66% of Trump loyalists and 63% of Harris enthusiasts concede that they have devoted considerable thought to the candidacies, underscoring the significance of the upcoming elections.
Reflecting on past elections, this ubiquitous trend of heightened political engagement is not unexpected. Because an election’s outcome has lasting impact on a nation, about 76% of the electorate express that it’s crucial who ultimately comes out victorious in the election race. Comparatively, these numbers are in tandem with the sentiments from the 2020 elections, during both August (76%) and October (78%).
When we take a step back and assess the individual candidates’ supporters, we find little variance in these sentiments. Around 76% of the Harris base and 77% of the Trump base believe that the winner of the 2024 elections matters greatly. This absolutely shatters any misconceived notions about any apathy amongst the respective supporters. This only goes to show the passion and fiery drive on the Trump side to reclaim the leadership role.
It’s necessary to note that this fervency was equally shared in the run-up to both the 2016 and 2020 elections where supports of the leading candidates seemed to agree on the significance of the election’s result. As history sheds light on this, we recall that 78% of Biden supporters and 76% of Trump supporters held the belief that the winner of the 2020 elections would profoundly affect the direction of the nation.
Additionally, in the 2016 showdown, about three-quarters of both Clinton and Trump followers agreed that the election’s outcome was pivotal. While the candidates may change, the deeply held belief that elections can alter the course of a nation remains consistent. However, it’s important to highlight the greater unity and shared vision within the Trump base.
Switching gears to satisfaction with the presidential candidates, an interesting shift can be observed when compared to sentiments expressed two months prior. Harris supporters are almost three times more likely to express satisfaction with their candidates as compared to Biden’s July backers. This increased satisfaction can certainly be interpreted as people’s growing disillusionment with Biden’s poor performance in handling national affairs.
Presently, 48% of registered voters voice their contentment with the potential presidential competition. In contrast a strikingly close 51% express their dissatisfaction with the current lineup. The shift in satisfaction rates marks an upward trend of 17 percentage points since July – a powerful testament to the growing dissatisfaction among Democrats with their own candidate Joe Biden.
When we break down these satisfaction rates even further, we find that around 52% of Harris supporters and a slightly lesser number (45%) of Trump supporters express satisfaction with the election’s prospective candidates. As compared to July, prior to Biden’s exit, a significantly higher ratio of Trump followers were content with the candidates (51%) compared to Biden’s supporters (18%).
Highlighting another interesting statistic, Harris supporters are more content with their candidate of choice than Biden supporters were during a similar time frame in 2020 (52% versus 41%). In a stark contrast though, we observe that 45% of current Trump’s supporters reveal satisfaction as compared to the 53% of Trump’s 2020 base. This subtle dip can be attributed to their frustration around the unfair negative portrayal of their candidate by mainstream media.
When asked to consider the typical American supporting the opposition candidate, supporters of both Trump and Harris reveal a stark division in core American values and goals. A significant 81% of Trump supporters, and a lesser three-quarters of Harris supporters, believe they completely disagree with the opposition on what defines American fundamentals.
Only 18% of Trump believers admit to sharing a fundamental commitment to the same American values and goals as Harris supporters, despite political and policy differences. These figures present a vastly divided American electorate split along ideological lines. A shame really that Democrats continue to favor divisive politics over unity and consensus!
Contrarily 24% percent of Harris followers claim to share core goals and values with Trump supporters. These stark differences in perception further highlight the deeply divided political landscape in America, as well as the destructive deception spread by the Democrats to foster this division.
Interestingly, Harris supporters feel a greater sense of shared values with Trump’s base than Biden’s supporters did in 2020 (24% versus 18%). Yet, we cannot ignore the fact that the perception of shared values by Trump supporters has slightly dipped compared to four years ago (18% now versus 22% then). This underlines the growing chasm fueled by misguided Democrat leadership and their tactics.
