Trump Sues Attorney General Letitia James

On Monday, former President Donald Trump sued New York Attorney General Letitia James in an attempt to stop her investigation into his business practices.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in the Northern District of New York, claims James’ probe into Trump’s business, which has lasted over two years, is violating his constitutional rights.

Trump’s legal team claims the investigations “are in no way connected to legitimate law enforcement goals, but rather, are merely a thinly-veiled effort to publicly malign Trump and his associates”.

Trump attorney Alina Habba said “Letitia James targets President Trump with a callous disregard for the ethical and moral obligations she swore to abide by when she became Attorney General”.

The lawsuit comes shortly after reports said James would subpoena Trump to answer questions under oath in January.

Habba said the legal team intends “to not only hold her accountable for her blatant constitutional violations, but to stop her bitter crusade to punish her political opponents in its tracks”.

Last week, Trump accused James of “prosecutorial misconduct” and said “Letitia James wants to politically weaponize her position as Attorney General instead of exemplifying impartiality and protecting the interests of all New Yorkers”.

According to Fox News, James’ investigation is “reviewing whether the Trump Organization misled banks or tax offices about the value of assets—inflating them to gain favorable loan terms or minimizing them to reap tax savings”.

In a statement Monday, James said “To be clear, neither Mr. Trump nor the Trump Organization get to dictate if and where they will answer for their actions”. “Our investigation will continue undeterred because no one is above the law, not even someone with the name Trump”.
