President Donald Trump is calling for federal intervention in Washington, D.C., arguing that the nation’s capital has descended into lawlessness and must be brought back under direct federal control to restore law and order.

Trump: “D.C. Is a National Disgrace”

Trump slammed the city’s skyrocketing crime rates, rampant homelessness, and deteriorating public safety, stating that D.C.’s leaders have completely failed to maintain control.

“Washington, D.C., is a national disgrace. Crime is out of control, the streets are filthy, and local leadership is weak,” Trump declared. “The federal government has an obligation to step in and clean up this mess.”

His remarks come amid a sharp increase in violent crime, including carjackings, robberies, and attacks on government officials, making public safety one of the top concerns for residents and visitors.

Republicans Push for Federal Control Over D.C.

Trump’s push aligns with Republican-led efforts to strip D.C. of its self-governance, arguing that the nation’s capital—home to critical federal institutions and foreign embassies—should not be allowed to descend into chaos under failed Democrat leadership.

A GOP-backed bill in Congress proposes dissolving D.C.’s local government, including the mayor’s office and city council, and returning full control to federal authorities. This would effectively overturn the city’s Home Rule authority, which has governed D.C. since 1973.

While the bill faces challenges in the Democrat-controlled Senate, Republicans see it as a necessary step to reclaim the capital from out-of-control crime and political dysfunction.

Democrats Fight Back, Push for D.C. Statehood

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and other local Democrats are furious over Trump’s proposal, insisting that the District should be granted statehood, not stripped of its governance.

Bowser argues that D.C. residents deserve full representation in Congress and that federal interference would disenfranchise its voters. However, critics say D.C. leaders have proven themselves incapable of managing the city, and that statehood would only solidify their failures on a larger scale.

A Showdown Over America’s Capital

As Washington, D.C., continues to spiral under failed Democrat policies, Trump’s call for federal intervention is resonating with law-abiding citizens and businesses who are fed up with crime, mismanagement, and progressive policies that have made the city unsafe.

With Republicans pushing to reclaim the capital and Democrats doubling down on statehood, the battle over who controls Washington, D.C. is shaping up to be a major political fight that could redefine the future of America’s capital.
