Former President Donald Trump returned to Georgia on Saturday for a political rally in Perry.
In a recent email to his supporters, Trump explained “Georgia is critical to our efforts to take back the House and Senate in 2022, and then the White House in 2024, which is why this rally is so important to me”.
President Biden narrowly won Georgia in the 2020 election and Trump has tried to overturn the results, which has been denied by Georgia Republicans.
Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock won the Georgia Senate runoff election in January by a very thin majority. The GOP needs a net gain of one seat to win back the Senate majority and Warnock’s seat is a possible option.
Trump recently sent a letter to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger discussing the decertification of the election in the state. Raffensperger has not agreed to look further into the issue.
Gov. Brian Kemp and Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan have also pushed back against Trump’s efforts to overturn the results.
Trump said the 2020 election was “the most corrupt election in the history of the country” and added “the people of Georgia must replace the RINOs and weak Republicans who made it all possible”.
Kemp and Raffensperger are running for re-election next year. Kemp had previously defeated Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams in 2018. Trump said he would have rather seen Abrams win. “Stacey, would you like to take his place? It’s OK with me”, he stated.
Trump has begun endorsing Herschel Walker, his longtime friend and former professional football star. Walker launched his Senate campaign last month and gave a speech at the rally Saturday.
In a radio interview Friday, David Brody of Real America’s Voice asked Trump if there was a reason he wouldn’t run in 2024. Trump responded ‘Well, I guess a bad call from a doctor or something, right?”
